Passionate assisted living for elders with memory loss

Our philosophy

At Magnolia and Primrose, we embrace a fresh ideology – a reinterpretation of the environment in which elders live – from institutional living – to a setting that promotes relationships, includes spontaneity, and builds confidence – where elders are honored and cherished.

Our philosophy is centered around the common-sense idea that human beings thrive in radically-relational, community environments. We’re dedicated to changing the culture of caring for our elders by creating long-term care homes that are relationship-rich, promote growth in the individuals who live and work there, and foster an atmosphere that believes all life is worth living.

The homes

Magnolia and Primrose located next door to each other on a private lane just outside in Old Town Orcutt in Northern Santa Barbara County. Both are 5,700 square foot custom homes with turn-of-the-century, farmhouse styling – each with spacious, yet charming suites. Each home sits on an acre of land equipped with locked perimeter view fencing, nice walking paths and outdoor gathering areas.

Magnolia can comfortably accommodate up to 14 residents in 2 private suites and 12 semi-private suites.

Primrose has 10 private suites and 4 semi-private suites for up to 14 residents.

Testimonials

lr-JanetCullivan.jpg
I was so lucky that I heard about Magnolia. It was the best thing that could have happened – it was perfect for my father. He came back to life. He smiled again. He was so happy. It was the place for him.
— Janet Cullivan

I live only 5 minutes away so I pop in every day. Every single time I pop in unannounced my mother content and is being cared for with love.
— Suzanne Hajnik

Magnolia has been a godsend for our family. Mom was in another highly-regarded Alzheimer’s facility and had been losing weight, falling frequently and was becoming more belligerent. Since coming to live at Magnolia, she has gained weight, has very infrequent falls, and is enjoying life more.

Margie and Chuck are wonderful with all of the residents, and the caregivers are all very patient and kind. The fact that it is a smaller facility also allows for more individual attention and, when necessary, creative problem-solving. We have also been impressed with the “in-house” neurologist, Dr. Harbaugh, who genuinely seems to care about making life better for the residents.

Mom is the best testimonial of all for the quality of Magnolia. She raves about the good food, the nice people, and the number of activities available to the residents. If you knew Mom, you’d know that if she didn’t like something about Magnolia, she would let us know in no uncertain terms!

We can only hope that if we reach that point in life when it becomes necessary to enter a care facility, there will be one as nice as Magnolia. Thank you, Margie and Chuck, for providing such a wonderful home for Mom.
